sunday a.m. frazzle

A new week begins...I'm starting it off with the craziest hair day since the 3rd grade class picture we do not speak of...

While at Reference Desk this morning, serving all who need me (even if it is to spell check the word temporary), I am going to plan out my meals for the week.  When I am fantastically broke, I suddenly find the creative energy within to become the person I always wished I was.  Maybe everyone who's fabulously organized is just plain old effing broke.

nine twenty-three

Even though it doesn't necessarily feel like Autumn in Florida, it is baby! And this is my favorite time of year, no matter where I am living. I'm getting in the Halloween spirit and displaying my small stash of orange and black decor. Seems a little early, but I have been hungry for holidays ever since I "took down" Christmas last year.

There are two huge events happening in October aside from Halloween. The first, and more exciting of the two, is a trip I'm taking out to San Francisco. I'm meeting my older sister there and we're going to take a letterpress class together here. I can hardly wait!

The second exciting thing would be my 29th birthday, which is on the 29th. The last hurrah of my twenties. I've spent them mostly in Florida (I came here when I was 22) which is significant to me. I like to think of my new year as the perfect time to make some quality resolutions for myself. If I do come up with a list, I'll probably be a bit more keen on sticking to it and sharing my progress here. (By the way, I am still free of Diet Coke and all "diet" products - no artificial sweeteners for me! That's been going strong since January 01, 2008.)

The week seems to be moving quickly; in my world, it´s Wednesday night making tomorrow Thursday, making Thursday Friday. Confusing! But worth it.

library book notebook

A new series? I´m not sure. That implies an end and I don´t know if I´ll ever stop doing this; I´ve wanted to do it for a long time. What? Just sharing the small things (mostly from books) that inspire me for personal reference. If you´re inspired too? Then we are both winners; yes, you and me. Winning blue ribbons without effort! These are not my photographs. Well, not originally. Disclaimer: I feel a little bit strange taking a picture of a picture; I´m most likely breaking copyright laws. I am not trying to pass this off as my own work. I just get inspired by things in borrowed books. I can´t have the book forever (even librarians have to pay fines!), but I can´t tear out the page that I want, either. I no longer have easy access to a scanner, but my camera does a pretty darn good job of copying the image. So, there you have it.

From Simply contemporary : inspirations for the modern home (dos Santos & Thompson, 2006) (is there are copy at your library?):

Yesterday, we had lunch out our favorite dive/diner - it is a Greek joint, even though you have to squint to find the Greek food on the menu.

But at least the paper place mats put it right out there.

whip it weekend

Oh, weekend. Why did you happen so fast?

First of all, I am not donating any more $ to my local public broadcasting station this year. I have been waiting since forever to watch Gwynnie in Spain with her cool friends (see this). And my local PBS? It is airing the program at 4 am. WTF. You suck WXEL, and I hope you hear me. No more pledges for you! Bitches.

On Friday we went to a Park(ing) display in my sweet little city. It is entirely by accident that I took a photo wherein a child was jumping in air...

Here's a space designed by "extended" family:

Delightful.

Now, skip to this morning and guess who was on my front porch? Oh, only this sweetie, watching the sunrise:

Skip to right now, and I am so tired!

dddddddddddddddddddddiablo

Diablo Cody, who is so badass it is annoying, recently said, ¨I'm a 30-year-old woman with a dwindling interest in blog culture.¨ [SOURCE] This actually has nothing more to do with Diablo Cody (but I will add that her name is so ridiculous that when I read it I simultaneously hear soundbites unloading semi-automatic weapons). But it has to do with her comment - for sure - the dwindling interest in blog culture. It made me think a little about blogging and how, about two years in, I really wasn´t blogging anymore, just keeping a diary of my pets and what Steve and I do on the weekends. I really don´t think of my blog as a blog.

More on my weekend plans to come...

beach

We are sickened by Sarah Palin and I think she is giving Steve heartburn, and I have always hated John McCain (always), etc. But the good news is, for at least today, the beach is still beautiful. So, we drank it up. We even brought books. Take that, Satan Sarah!

open for business

because of winn-dixie

Steve knows that I have a passionate hate for Winn-Dixie; this sucks, because it is the closest grocery store to our house. But Steve, the charming optimist always says to me, ¨I wish you did´t hate Winn-Dixie.¨ Me too! But, the service is horrible (it is commonplace to be rung up without ever being spoken to); one morning I saw a roach scrambling across the aisles; their products suck, etc. He indulges me by doing big shopping trips at the closest Publix, which is my favorite grocery store in Florida.

On the rarest of occasions, though, Winn-Dixie knocks one out of the park. These spray roses are a case in point - $3.33 a bunch. Are you joking me? I´ve had them almost a week and they are so glorious - a word my mom uses when describing the most beautiful flowers.

jury duty: an epic love story

I am postponed again, until November. It´s complicated. This might be a good thing - I have nothing great to read right now. I´m seeking out the next great book.

start/finish/always something

  • Tomorrow I possibly have jury duty.  At one point, I was dreading it - then I had to postpone it because of a vacation, and now it's back on, if I'm called to serve. I will know after 5pm.  Anyway, I would love to have jury duty booty all week.  All I can think is I might have the chance to read when permitted or doodle my brains out, even if I'm sitting on a hard chair.  The best part is that I'll get to carpool with Steve.
  • Last night I finished A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers and it was so, so great.  I did my usual Goodreads ritual, wherein after I finish a book, I read through the reader reviews on the title and either shake my head or nod (yes! yes! I like you!).
  • To be continued, after 5pm?

too low maintenance?

wedding

Steve and I went to a lovely wedding yesterday.

I put on the little black dress and cherry Chapstick. I moisturize my lips just like a good junior bridesmaid. Lame!
