the san francisco day trip

I love daytrips. My sister, Emily, gets to take the ultimate daytrips. I received a text message not so long ago that read, "In Alaska. What's your address?" When she visited me in Portland (she lives in Seattle), it was not five minutes out that she suggested a San Francisco daytrip. We (mom + I) were so in.

So this is how our trip went: we flew down early from Portland and arrived in San Francisco when the rush hour crowds had passed. We hopped the BART from the airport to downtown, and began our trolley-transit day. It was a beautiful, sunny-chilly day. People were everywhere. Such fashionistas in S.F.! All the ladies and gentlemen were Vogue-status, save me.

Stop #1. No daytrip is complete without a quick trip to the main public library. This was my favorite part - a mural made of old catalog cards!

First sighting of old school transporation:

As we waited to catch this to the Wharf for lunch...:

My eyeballs fixed on lush hanging baskets:

Our turn!:

I managed to hold on and snap some pictures (Mr. Rogers would be so proud):

In no order I can remember! The entrance to Lombard St.:

Down, down, down - to Alcatraz:

Tourists stand agape at the Bay Bridge:

More lovely transportation down at the Wharf:

The Golden Gate Bridge, shrouded in low fog:

After a yummy clam chowder lunch, we headed back up, up, up.
San Francisco City Hall:

I took this picture for the 1029 address (me + Steve's birthday), but after I took it, I realized a whole lot more was going on in this picture than four numbers:

A short day in S.F. is over...almost.
Spirits...round one:

I actually lost my fear of flying [during spirits...round two], but all I brought back was this picture - I think it *might* be Mt. Shasta in Nor. Cal.:

Kim, I had to take a second peek at the shadow. It's part of the ad on the back of the magazine. Yowza - a little creepy looking, no? I get sweaty palms just thinking about oxygen masks...

Allegro-mania, Holy Cow indeed! My sister has gone shopping in Vancouver just for the day. I know she could drive, but why drive when she can fly?

SG, YOU are lovely. My diaries aspire to be just like you.

Meghan, truly - there was a bum digging in the can. He's hiding from me...

Hmmph. Fine. I see how it is. Always doing everything without the little sister...
