time for a new year

Here I am!  You know, I have a habit of resurfacing around the New Year.  And then I mostly hibernate for the rest of it.

Remember 2012?  It only ended 4 days ago.  It was a nice enough year.  Someone I know said they were sad to leave the year behind because it was so quiet and happy.  We were in Portland for a couple of weeks over Christmas.  When I got back to work, I learned that a 79 year-old patron that came to the library every single day was killed in a car accident.  He was walking across the street and got hit.  To know him was to know that some days he came in with a smile and some days he came in as the most serious man that ever lived, dodging straight past me and getting right down to it on the computer.  It feels strange to be back to work knowing I will never see him again.  Someone is missing!  When was the last time he smiled at me?

What's on deck for 2013?  I'll tell you right off the bat:  a little sister for George, that's what!  So look for that to happen around May 9.

Another exciting thing is that we're moving.  Again.  We wanted something a little bigger, so we rolled the real estate dice and two very lucky things happened.  #1, we found a dream home (a real California ranch if you will) and #2, sold our house in 4 days.  We close on January 18, so lickety splits.

New Year's Resolutions:  I love them.  I haven't drawn mine up yet.  They will invariably involve food stuffs, reading, watching far less TV, and taking more walks.  But there might be more.

Hope your New Year started off quiet and happy, or however you might like them.
