but i do!

(Thank you all for sending along your thoughts; they are still needed where you can spare them because they are working.)

I've come to the awesome realization that my vacation time is zapped clean gone for at least a few months. There is no escape now except into books. Florida, what?! I'm in North Dakota as we speak, with all the generations of Louise Erdrich's The Plague of Doves (2008). And it is so, so good. Book #3 in January, 2009. Resolution #1: looking swell. And promising. Three juicy memoirs are waiting in the wings: Hurry Down Sunshine (Greenberg, 2008); Without a Map (Hall, 2007); Girls of a Tender Age (Smith, 2006).

Resolutions 2-3: I'm not going there tonight.

I'm whining about lack of vacation because I have Philadelphia on the brain. I really love that city. I've been there a few times in recent years and it seems like one place "up North" I could do, outside of my beloved West Coast. I still haven't finished posting pictures from Montana, so I don't even know why I think I need to tell you that (obviously) I have some to post from Philly. But I do.

Philly is a great town, but you like it more than NYC or Boston? Really?

I don't think I could ever live more than 40 minutes away from NYC. It's in my blood.

How much vacation do you get? You have been everywhere!

I'm not sure that I like it more - I agree both NYC and Boston are tops (and I really, really love Boston), but it seems kind of like it was made for my speed of things.

I think I get 12 days of vacation, or something like that. I only notice it when it is GONE!
