right on target

In my new working life, I find that I want to be on the computer less when I am home. But I still want to blog, so I'll have to find a solution that'll help me get some balance between sittings. I whine about this too much. I should stop and just figure out some kind of solution. At any rate, the weekend is here right now and it has been full. I have to get my camera out to the driveway because we have a new (old) addition to our family of cars. But I'll explain more about this later because it needs an explanation. Or a manifesto. We were in Miami yesterday (hello, Kate!) and so was George Bush (fuck you!)...Traffic was nightmarish but it gave us lots of time to take in Miami's street culture while we were stopped at so many, many lights.

Work is going well. Soon I will be working some weekends and I guess this is okay with me - Saturdays at a public library are busy, busy, busy and to tell you the truth, I am in this line of work because I love to work with the public. And when the public comes in droves, it's a good sign and makes my job a lot of fun. I have helped folks studying for their citizenship test, a silly old man that likes Rachel Ray cookbooks, high school students writing papers about controversial issues like prayer in public schools followed by citation questions, students writing biographies about sports figures, an old lady wanting to know of painters who also make sculptures, another guy designing his own letterhead, a pregnant woman looking for What to Expect When You're Expecting, etc. So much variety. And when I'm singled out and thanked for my help, I think that the longest, most tedious paper I ever wrote in library school was a hoop I am thankful to have jumped through because in the end, there is nothing better than being sincerely thanked. Cha cha cha.

One thing I'm thinking about is making a commitment to take a picture every single day and post it here, with commentary or not. I also thought I would be able to be better with my It Landed on a Scanner series if I kept it on a schedule but alas that has failed me. I have things piled on my scanner right now but not enough things, so I'm working on that...

I finally saw the Science of Sleep on Thursday night! It was so charming (I love Gael Garcia Bernal). And last night I watched a movie called The Puffy Chair but I didn't have as warm feelings about that one - when it finished I was kind of grateful.

And my proudest moment this weekend: the gardenia tree is blooming! The buds have been tight and bright green for weeks but two finally opened this morning. They smell so heavenly:

And my silly girl Jane, lazy as ever, catching more table time:

...Stay tuned for another post soon about our new/old car!

I love the picture idea. I wish I could commit to that.

I miss Miami--just a little. You'll get into a routine and I say it's the quality not the quantity of posts anyway :o)

I love Gardenia...and sleepy cats.

The gardenia is almost as beautiful as Jane. Almost.

Hello, Madge! I'm a little late here. I'm sorry you had to battle Miami traffic hell. I hate this place. With all of my heart.

I love gardenias almost as much as I hate Miami.

I think I used to have blog...
I don't even remember the address.

Perhaps I will attempt to find it now and update a little.

I miss you!
