fireplace cheer

Last night, we watched the Leonids. Despite clear skies, Steve only saw one meteor! This was my count: 0. It was still fun and absolutely beautiful to be gazing upward. When I look up at the night sky, I get the same sensation as when I'm snorkeling in very deep water - there is this strange feeling in my belly: empty/full.

So it is chilly in Florida - I see the low for my parts will be forty-seven degrees tonight. Our fireplace is not a working fireplace, but it must not be neglected...so I fancied it up last night. See photograph. Maybe the best part of yesterday, aside from the meteor shower, was snuggling by the "fire" with Jane, D. Sergei, and Cole Dog.

I have to begin work on my final papers of my grad school career this week. This has hit me with an ounce of sadness, unexpectedly. I graduate in less than a month. And then I am, technically, a librarian from an ALA accredited program. Wow. I definitely did not see this as my career even...four years ago - funny.

I am about to admit something that might lose your readership. I am willing, however, to take that risk. Yesterday, at Goodwill, I heard my favorite Christmas song of all time: All I Want for Christmas is You, by...uhhh...Mariah Carey (this just feels obligatory: !!!!!!1!!!!!1!!). Everyone has their secret pop star obsession. She's mine, and I so love that song. It makes my hips gyrate. Love me or leave me, folks.

I just had to read that Mariah Carey part aloud to J.

I think he now understands a little better why I absolutely have to read blogs every day, even when I have so little free time. You are just so terrific!

And I love the lights in the fireplace. We found a place today that we love love love (but it is $579k) and it has a useless fireplace and all I want to do now I put Christmas lights in there.

Good luck with finals! I miss being a student... Mostly, I miss being able to go to weekday matinees of popular movies.

i'm sorry the Leonids didn't produce for you the spectacular show they used to give.... i think 2002 was the best year of theirs that i can remember.

gonna even bother for the Taurids?

(shaddap, i'm from Eugene)

I am totally doing that to my (presently defunct) fireplace!

Oh, and please note I have updated the Pigpile on the Spinning Bed.

I feel you on the papers for grad school. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by all the work I have to do in the next two weeks, and I'm not even close to graduating! :)

And...um...that Mariah Carey song? LOVE IT. I don't much care for her as a singer, but I just love that song! I really like it in the movie Love Actually when that adorable little girl sings it. So you're not alone in the silliness.

I wish I had a fireplace to warm my toes by...even if only with bulb warmth ;o)

Kate, You are terrific.

Meghan, I must check out the Taurids. However, the Eugene-oids are the best.

SG, Jane is so happy to be in your company.

Junniper, to know that you too love the MC song is fantastic. Can we talk about the twinkling intro? The seductive low notes? The beebop chorus? Can we?

Tits, I am relieved to hear this. I thought you might never come back.

Kat, the lights are so warm! It helps that the inside of the fireplace was painted white (not by us) - it really reflects the glow...

Mariah Carey - bad.

Fireplace - good.

Oh, and I finally posted a pic of one of our cats on my site. Jane should dig it.

I was just thinking of how much I despised that song as I walked through the mall today.

Have you not had a retail job during Christmas? I think that I hate it most because when I took dance in high school we had it in part of the program. I've heard it millions of times.

Corley, I worked seven holidays as a glorified sales associate...I think that might have something to do with me liking it...

I just noticed the book link...My Cat Spit McGee. I must read this.

Kat, you must! It is very tender.

No need to writhe in shame over the Mariah Carey song. As much as I dislike her... I love love love that song. I got addicted to it the year that "Love Actually" came out.

It was too cloudy for us to see the meteors. Sadness.

i, too, tried to watch the leonids. i may have seen a meteor, but it could easily have been a smudge on my glasses. i had to go inside after 20 minutes once i got scared of potential aliens.

your fireplace is BEAUTIFUL and i wish you much luck on your final papers. i envy you not, nor myself, when i reach that stage.

and i'll never leave you madge! (though you desert us here in tampa ::sob:: )
