Holy shit, folks.
Steve's truck was stolen right out of our driveway tonight.
While we were home.
While our two porchlights were burning bright.
Even Cole didn't hear a thing...
I HATE THIEVING ASSHOLES!
p.s. in case you're wondering, yes, every last one of his camera$ were in the cab.
[1:00 PM edit]
So the truck was recovered by highway patrol, stripped and trashed - it had been abandoned on an I-95 on-ramp. All of his cameras are gone - from his Holga to his favorite Nikons to his Sinar. Of course these cameras can be replaced; they are just things. But the feelings around here are low, or, I'm way more pissed than he is.
However, we do have some good news that's making us smile big: we adopted a kitten today. Jane gets to come home on Wednesday.

My jaw just dropped.
I am so sorry. That sucks a lot. Especially the cameras!
J's actually been hoping his truck would get stolen for the past few months (he's nuts, I think.)
holy fucking shit!
that sucks so much - i can't even imagine if such a thing happened. i mean, losing a car is one thing, but the car + beloved camera$ = super crummy.
what's w/ all the bad luck lately? obviously, we shall all soon win the lottery.
jane, by the way, sounds adorable. i hope cole & d sergei treat her like the princess she is!
Kate, Yup. Massive suckage. Massive! I almost wish my shit car was stolen...but then I would hate to think of someone else driving in my spot, going through my things (ahem, those seven pennies and two dimes in my ash tray), looking in my rearview mirror, etc! It's the creepiest violation. Especially when the police told us his truck was lifted, more than likely, to be used in a fight/gunfight. GREAT.
Kim, you're right: the cameras were so beloved. And wherever they turn up, they won't be loved in the same way Steve loved to use them...which makes me so sad. It was a collection, really; when those types of things are stolen, it's like, Man! You suck, world! I would love to win the lottery right about now, and we can't wait for Jane. Some estrogen in this sea of men will be soooo nice.
WTF???!!!
Seriously?
That's fucking awful. I am so sorry for Steve. I would be putting my fists through things if I were him.
I do, of course, expect to see nonstop pictures of Jane the minute she arrives.
You will! I still have my digital camera!
It's difficult when it happens at your home like that. I think you lose a bit of your sense of security, knowing what they were able to get away with while you're practically 'right there.'
My car wasn't stolen, but I did have someone 'jimmy' my trunk and steal the contents about a year ago, in my parking lot, right behind my apartment, where I can see the car from my kitchen window. The joke was on them, though. They took the boxes from my new car stereo, but the boxes contained the old stereo -- I'd already had it installed. I laugh when I think about them opening boxes of what they thought was a brand new stereo and speakers, only to pull out the old crap.
The only lasting problem is that my key won't work in my trunk now, I have to use the latch inside the car. But I haven't left anything of value in my car since it happened.
